Mickey Mantle in Crown
with Casey Stengel
Original caption: 10/1/1956- New York, NY - Yankee Manager Casey Stengel proudly presents the apple of his eye, his switch-hitting majesty Mickey Mantle, complete with crown and three "sceptres" representing the triple crown of the Major Leagues. Mantle is the top man on the batting totem pole with .353 batting average, 52 home runs and 130 runs batted in.

1956 WORLD SERIES
Don Larson Perfect Game
Yogi Berra and Don Larsen find bear hug is perfect way to end perfect game, Oct. 8, 1956, in Game 5 of the World Series after Larsen sets down 27 straight Dodgers. Yankees go on to win the Series in seven games.
Don Larsen is the only pitcher in Major League history to throw a no-hitter during the post-season when he beat the Brooklyn Dodgers with a perfect game in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series.

1956 A.L. Rookie of the Year
Luis Aparicio - Shortstop
Playing for the Chicago White Sox In 1956, the Venezuelan born shortstop led the American league with 21 stolen bases and won Rookie of the Year honors.
Aparicio and 2nd baseman Nellie Fox formed a dynamic duo, defensively anchoring the Sox infield and topping the line up with a formidable hit and run offense.
Aparicio won nine Golden Gloves during his career and led the American League in fielding percentage for eight years. He also led the league in stolen bases for nine years with over fifty stolen bases in three of those seasons.

FACTS:
On May 30, 1956, Mickey Mantle hit the legendary 600+ foot home run in Yankee Stadium. On the mound was Pedro Ramos of the Washington Senators who had a 2-2 count with Mantle batting left-handed and two men on base. The next pitched was crushed and it traveled 370 feet away, 117 feet high, and approximately 18 inches away from clearing the right field facade - which would have allowed it to become the first and only pitch to literally leave Yankee Stadium.

1956 World Series
Official Program
Brooklyn Dodgers vs. New York Yankees
The 1956 World Series of Major League Baseball was played between the New York Yankees and the defending champion Brooklyn Dodgers during the month of October 1956. The Series was a rematch of the 1955 World Series. The Yankees won the Series in seven games, 4–3, capturing their seventeenth championship. The highlight was Don Larsen's perfect game in Game 5, the only no-hitter in the history of major league post-season play. Larsen was named the Series MVP for his achievement.

1956 CY YOUNG Winner
Don Newcombe - Brooklyn Dodgers
Don Newcombe won the first-ever Cy Young award that year, posting a 27-7 record.
Perhaps the greatest collection of pitching icons in baseball history were members of this 1956 Dodger team.
"Nuke", as he was called by the media and fans alike, also had a 3.04 ERA.
Nuke led the Dodgers to a National League pennant and also took home the National League MVP award that season, beating out such legends as Hank Aaron, Stan Musial and Warren Spahn.
